Christening photographer in Sofia
A christening lasts half an hour and does not repeat. There is no second take of the moment the child goes into the font, and no way to fix it if the photographer was standing on the wrong side.
from 100 €· For families who want the story of the day, not ten formal frames at the iconostasis.
So the first thing I ask is which church. The rules differ from church to church: some priests let you move around, others expect you to hold one position for the whole ceremony. Flash is forbidden almost everywhere — and Sofia's churches are dark, which makes shooting in them a technical problem, not a matter of a good eye.
The second thing is timing. I arrive 25–30 minutes early to photograph the preparations, the godparents and the child before changing. Those frames usually turn out to be the warmest in the gallery. It also lets me check the light before anything unrepeatable starts.
After the ceremony come the family portraits — not rushed on the steps, but properly, in the churchyard or a nearby garden. If there is a restaurant afterwards, I stay for that too.
If you are new to Bulgaria and unsure how an Orthodox christening actually works or how to arrange one with a church, I will walk you through it. It is a common question and a reasonable one.

FAQ
Can you use flash inside the church?
In most Sofia churches, no — and rightly so, it disrupts the ceremony and the people in it. I work with fast lenses at high ISO. That is exactly why shooting in a church takes preparation rather than just a good camera.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to three weeks is optimal, especially if your date falls on a weekend — Saturdays and Sundays fill up faster.
How long does the ceremony take?
Thirty to fifty minutes depending on the church and the priest. Busier churches christen several children in a row, which makes the real time on site longer — we account for that in advance.
What should we wear?
Calm, muted clothing, not matching outfits across the family. Once the date is confirmed I send a short guide: what works on camera, what does not, and what time to arrive.
When do we get the photos?
Five selected frames within 48 hours so you have something to share straight away, and the full edited gallery within 14 days. For context, the usual turnaround in Sofia is 10–15 working days.
